Interior Architecture of Lagos Restaurants

Dining in Lagos has become one of the most sought-after experiences in the bubbling city. It isn’t just about the food anymore, it has become the feast for the other senses too. The ambiance and atmosphere, the social aspect, and a sense of grandeur have all become part of the dining experience.

This April, we would be featuring the architectural interior design of three restaurants in Lagos as we discuss some of the secrets behind their great designs.

Before we go right into exploring these restaurants, we should take note of some things to consider when looking for a well-designed restaurant;

Flow

This is self-explanatory in itself, a well-designed restaurant has a distinct flow that makes up the space, and gives it direction, perceived organization, and an overall layout. Waiters and diners should be able to move around without bumping into objects and other diners. Functionality is key to a restaurant layout.

Good Decor

Decor plays a HUGE role in portraying a restaurant’s distinct style and character. What is accented in a restaurant would show the type of establishment the restaurant is presenting; whether it is fine dining, oriental dining, and so on. Decor plays a huge role in helping to project the personality and identity of the space.

Subtlety

The idea of being subtle is not to blend everything into the background, but to have every aspect of the design, from lighting to materials and layout setup integrated together so well that they help to place the emphasis back on the food and should never distract the diners from enjoying their time.

Having covered these, in no particular order we start off with:

R.S.V.P. Lagos

This is a New American restaurant and bar located in Victoria Island, Lagos. R.S.V.P. is inspired by the prohibition-era restaurants and bars in Manhattan NYC. It details an industrial luxury design element and also features a hidden bar and lounge behind the restaurant, its classy design is an element that set the new standards in the city. It is an upscale casual restaurant. Its menu is also true to its Manhattan contemporary style serving the usual western a la carte stuff you would expect to find in American nouveau cuisine.

The architecture of this restaurant is very simple but exquisite, the decor in itself speaks a huge volume of class, beauty and simplicity.

Next up we have…

Shiro Lagos

Shiro means “castle” in Japanese and the design of this space is true to that aesthetic. From the grand statues to the lighting, the space looks detailed, lush, rich, and lofty. Its design is on the verge of imposing but everything blends together to make its diners comfortable.

This dramatic soaring space does a great job at capturing one’s imagination. Its signature high ceilings are inspired by the themes, cuisine, and architecture of Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan. Although its decor is anything but subtle, the subdued lighting and soft furnishing easily complement the towering statues.

Finally, we have…

Craft Gourmet by Chef Lou Baker Lagos

This quaint restaurant never fails to dazzle its first-time diners with its beautiful interior. This is a luxury restaurant accented by its earthy tones, gold finishings, mirror pillars, soft furnishings, and lighting. The menu is well complemented by the beautiful interior and layout. The decor in itself is quite subtle, blending in and dazzling its diners at the same time.

People now pay for experiences whether it is through taste or sight or smell and want their money’s worth. Experiencing design is all about the sensual nature of materiality; a space that has little secrets to discover as one looks and ponders the space.

We hope you enjoyed this post!
